ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ بَيْعِ حَبَلِ الْحَبَلَةِ الَّذِي نُهِيَ عَنْهُ

ibnhibban:4947 – ʿUmar b. Saʿīd b. Sinān > Aḥmad b. Abū Bakr > Mālik > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

the Messenger of Allah forbade selling the offspring of the offspring of a pregnant animal (Habal Al-Habalah), which was a transaction practiced by the people of the Jahiliyyah, whereby a man would buy camel to slaughter, but he would wait until the she-camel had produced offspring and the offspring in her belly had then produced offspring. ابن حبّان:٤٩٤٧ – أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ حَبَلِ الْحَبَلَةِ وَكَانَ بَيْعًا يَتَبَايَعُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَبْتَاعُ الْجَزُورَ إِلَى أَنْ تُنْتَجَ النَّاقَةُ ثُمَّ تُنْتَجُ الَّتِي فِي بَطْنِهَا»

Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the sale called 'Habal-al-Habala which was a kind of sale practiced in the Pre- Islamic Period of ignorance. One would pay the price of a she-camel which was not born yet would be born by the immediate offspring of an extant she-camel.

malik:31-64 – Yaḥyá > Mālik > Nāfiʿ > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar

Yahya related to me from Malih from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the transaction called habal alhabala. It was a transaction which the people of Jahiliya practised. A man would buy the unborn offspring of the unborn offspring of a she-camel.
