ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ مَا يَجْعَلُ الْمَرْءُ أَصَابِعَهُ عِنْدَ الْإِشَارَةِ فِي التَّشَهُّدِ

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ used to place his left hand on his left thigh and his right hand on his right thigh, and he would point with his index finger, without moving it, in the direction of his gaze."  

ابن حبّان:١٩٤٤ – أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمَذَانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا تَشَهَّدَ وَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُسْرَى وَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُمْنَى وَأَشَارَ بِأُصْبُعِهِ السَّبَّابَةِ لَا يُجَاوِزُ بَصَرُهُ إِشَارَتَهُ»

'Abdullah b. Zubair narrated on the authority of his father that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat for supplication, i. e. tashahhud (blessing and supplication), he placed his right hand on his right thigh and his left hand on his left thigh, and pointed with his forefinger, and placed his thumb on his (milddle) finger, and covered his knee with the palm of his left hand..  

مسلم:٥٧٩b – حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلاَنَ ح قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلاَنَ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا قَعَدَ يَدْعُو وَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُمْنَى وَيَدَهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُسْرَى وَأَشَارَ بِإِصْبَعِهِ السَّبَّابَةِ وَوَضَعَ إِبْهَامَهُ عَلَى إِصْبَعِهِ الْوُسْطَى وَيُلْقِمُ كَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى رُكْبَتَهُ  

nasai:1275 – Yaʿqūb b. Ibrāhīm > Yaḥyá > Ibn ʿAjlān > ʿĀmir b. ʿAbdullāh b. al-Zubayr from his father

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat to say the tashahhud, he placed his left hand on his left thigh and pointed with his forefinger, and his gaze did not go beyond he finger with which he was pointing.  

النسائي:١٢٧٥ – أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلاَنَ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا قَعَدَ فِي التَّشَهُّدِ وَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُسْرَى وَأَشَارَ بِالسَّبَّابَةِ لاَ يُجَاوِزُ بَصَرُهُ إِشَارَتَهُ

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat to say the tashahhud, he placed his left hand on his left thigh and pointed with his forefinger, and his gaze did not go beyond he finger with which he was pointing. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1275)
