The result of three types of people who are tried by Allah as a means of purification, and the meaning of the word 'fitnah'

hakim:7878Abū ʿAmr ʿUthmān b. Aḥmad al-Daqqāq b. al-Sammāk> Ibrāhīm b. al-Haytham al-Baladī > al-Ḥakīm b. Nāfiʿ > ʿUfayr b. Maʿdān > Sulaym b. ʿĀmir > Abū Umāmah

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah tries each one of you with balāʾ (tribulations) while He is well aware of him. ˹He tries him˺ just like one of you ˹purifies˺ his gold with fire.

And from among them are (1) those who come out like the gold of Ibrīz (pure gold) and are the ones whom Allah ﷻ has saved from evil deeds; and (2) from among them is the one who comes out like gold of lesser quality and such is the one whole was ˹taken˺ by some doubts, and (3) from among them is the one who comes out like blackened gold, and such is the one who has ˹experienced˺ fitnah."

This ḥadīth has a Ṣaḥīḥ chain but they (Bukhārī and Muslim) did not collect it.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah will test one of you with tribulation, just as one of you tests the purity of gold with fire. From it, there will come out that which is like the purest gold, and that is what Allah has protected from doubts. And from it, there will come out that which is like the impure gold, but not to the same degree. And that is what has caused some doubts. And from them, there will come out that which is like the blackest gold, and that is what has been corrupted."
