when the Iqamah was pronounced and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that they (the people) were small in number, he would sit down, nd would not pray; but when he saw them (the people) large in number, he would pray. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 545)   

الحاكم:٧٢٤ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُزَنِيُّ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ وَدَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ قَالَا ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ثنا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ مَسْعُودٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَكُونُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ حِينَ تُقَامُ الصَّلَاةُ فَإِذَا رَآهُمْ قَلِيلًا جَلَسَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى وَإِذَا رَآهُمْ جَمَاعَةً صَلَّى»  

«هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ وَمَسْعُودٌ هَذَا أَبُو الْحَكَمِ الزُّرَقِيُّ» على شرطهما
