[Machine] Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , said, "When the people of Makkah sent their prisoners as ransom, Zainab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , was sent as ransom for Abu Al-'Ass with wealth. She also sent a necklace in which Khadijah had put her trust when she married Abu Al-'Ass. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that necklace, he was deeply moved and said, 'If you all see fit to release the prisoner and return what belongs to her, then do so.' They replied, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' So they set him free and returned what belonged to her. Abu Al-'Ass continued to live with his association with idolatry until just before the conquest of Makkah. He then set out on a trading journey to Syria with wealth from the people of Quraysh, some of which was given to him. When he finished his trade and was returning in a caravan, a secret detachment sent by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ apprehended him. It was said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the one who ordered the detachment for the caravan in which Abu Al-'Ass was, consisting of seventy to a hundred riders with their leader being Zaid bin Harithah. This incident occurred in Jumada al-Ula in the sixth year after Hijrah. The detachment took all the possessions from the caravan and captured several people, but Abu Al-'Ass managed to escape. When the secret detachment returned with their spoils, Abu Al-'Ass came at night searching for his wealth until he entered the presence of Zainab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He sought her protection and she granted it to him. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out for the Fajr prayer and made the Takbir, the people also made the Takbir with him."
