[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "Whoever learns knowledge seeking the pleasure of Allah, but not for any worldly gain, will not attain it except that it will lead him to a purpose of the Hereafter. Falih said, 'Its recognition is its fragrance.' This hadith has been narrated with two authentic chains of transmission from Jabir ibn Abdullah and Ka'ab ibn Malik."  

الحاكم:٢٨٩ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَقِيهُ أَنْبَأَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زِيَادٍ السَّرِيُّ وَحدثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ الْبَلَدِيُّ وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ السَّيَّارِيُّ وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ حَلِيمٍ بِمَرْوَ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْمُوَجِّهِ قَالُوا ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الْمَكِّيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحٌ عَنْ أَبِي طُوَالَةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ عِلْمًا يُبْتَغَى بِهِ وَجْهُ اللَّهِ لَا يَتَعَلَّمُهُ إِلَّا لَيُصِيبَ بِهِ غَرَضًا مِنَ الدُّنْيَا لَمْ يَجِدْ عَرْفَ الْجَنَّةِ» قَالَ فُلَيْحٌ وَعَرْفُهَا رِيحُهَا وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ بِإِسْنَادَيْنِ صَحِيحَيْنِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ

The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone acquires knowledge that should be sought seeking the Face of Allah, but he acquires it only to get some worldly advantage, he will not experience the arf, i.e. the fragrance, of Paradise.  

أبو داود:٣٦٦٤ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحٌ عَنْ أَبِي طُوَالَةَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَعْمَرٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ عِلْمًا مِمَّا يُبْتَغَى بِهِ وَجْهُ اللَّهِ ﷻ لاَ يَتَعَلَّمُهُ إِلاَّ لِيُصِيبَ بِهِ عَرَضًا مِنَ الدُّنْيَا لَمْ يَجِدْ عَرْفَ الْجَنَّةِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يَعْنِي رِيحَهَا

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ عِلْمًا مِمَّا يُبْتَغَى بِهِ وَجْهُ اللَّهِ لَا يَتَعَلَّمُهُ إِلَّا لَيُصِيبَ بِهِ غَرَضًا مِنَ الدُّنْيَا لَمْ يَجِدْ عَرْفَ الْجَنَّةِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ»  

«هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ سَنَدُهُ ثِقَاتٌ رُوَاتُهُ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ وَقَدْ أَسْنَدَهُ وَوَصَلَهُ عَنْ فُلَيْحٍ جَمَاعَةٌ غَيْرُ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ» على شرطهما
