[Machine] On the day of Uhud, when they did not come, we called upon Allah, so they went off to a side. Sa'd called out and said, "O Lord, if we meet the people tomorrow, grant me a strong man with intense fierceness, whose wrath I fight for your sake and he fights me, then grant me victory over him until I kill him and take his spoils." Abdullah ibn Jahsh then stood up and said, "O Allah, grant me tomorrow a man with intense fierceness, whose wrath is intense and his strength is intense. I will fight him for your sake and he will fight me, then he will grab me and sever my nose and ears. And when I meet you tomorrow, I will say, 'O Abdullah, what happened to your nose and ears?' I will reply, 'It was for your sake and the sake of your messenger.' Then he will say, 'You have spoken the truth.'" Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas said, "O my son, the supplication of Abdullah ibn Jahsh was better than mine. I saw him at the end of the day, and indeed his ears and nose were hanging by a thread."  

يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ أَلَا تَأْتِي نَدْعُو اللَّهَ فَخَلَوْا فِي نَاحِيَةٍ فَدَعَا سَعْدٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَبِّ إِذَا لَقِينَا الْقَوْمَ غَدًا فَلَقِّنِي رَجُلًا شَدِيدًا بَأْسُهُ شَدِيدًا حَرْدُهُ فَأُقَاتِلُهُ فِيكَ وَيُقَاتِلُنِي ثُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي عَلَيْهِ الظَّفَرَ حَتَّى أَقْتُلَهُ وَآخُذَ سَلَبَهُ فَقَامَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَحْشٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي غَدًا رَجُلًا شَدِيدًا حَرْدُهُ شَدِيدًا بَأْسُهُ أُقَاتِلُهُ فِيكَ وَيُقَاتِلُنَي ثُمَّ يَأْخُذُنِي فَيَجْدَعُ أَنْفِي وَأُذُنِي فَإِذَا لَقِيتُكَ غَدًا قُلْتَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ فِيمَ جُدِعَ أَنْفُكَ وَأُذُنُكَ؟ فَأَقُولُ فِيكَ وَفِي رَسُولِكَ فَيَقُولُ صَدَقْتَ قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ يَا بُنَيَّ كَانَتْ «دَعْوَةُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَحْشٍ خَيْرًا مِنْ دَعْوَتِي لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ آخِرَ النَّهَارِ وَإِنَّ أُذُنَهُ وَأَنْفَهُ لَمُعَلَّقَانِ فِي خَيْطٍ»
