26. Book of Expeditions (3/3)

٢٦۔ كِتَابُ الْمَغَازِي وَالسَّرَايَا ص ٣

[Machine] Narrated to us Al-Hakim Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al-Hafiz, dictation in the month of Dhul-Hijjah, in the year 401:

The book includes the biography of the Maghazi (battles) and the Saraya (expeditions), as well as other events and the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The two shaykhs (referring to Imam al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim) agreed on what is authentic in this book. It contains many narrations attributed to Abu Zubair, from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him). Muslim alone stood out in compiling these narrations, and there are few remaining narrations that are reliable from sources other than him.

[Machine] "We wanted to wash the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , but the people had a disagreement regarding it. Some of them said, 'We should strip the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as we strip our dead or wash him while his clothes are on.' So Allah revealed the Sunnah upon them until every single one of them had fallen asleep with his chin on his chest. Then someone from the direction of the Ka'bah said, 'Don't you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is to be washed with his clothes on?' So they washed him while his shirt was on, pouring water over it and rubbing it gently over him. Aisha said, 'By Allah, if I did not know that it was from the order of Allah, I would not have washed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except for his garments.'"

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became heavy, we said, "Who will offer prayer upon you, O Messenger of Allah?" So he cried, and we cried as well. He said, "Wait, may Allah forgive you and reward you for your Prophet. When you wash me, shroud me, and place me on the edge of my grave, then leave me for a while. The first one to offer prayer upon me will be my close friend and companion Gabriel, then Michael, then Israfil, then the Angel of Death with a group of angels. Then let the men of my household offer prayer upon me, followed by their women. After that, let the groups come in, one after another, and the individuals. And do not harm me with your weeping, wailing, or shouting. And whoever among my companions is absent, inform him of my salutations. For I bear witness that I have conveyed my greetings to everyone who entered Islam and followed my religion from this day until the Day of Judgment." 'Abdul Malik bin 'Abdul Rahman in this chain is unknown to us, and we do not know his trustworthiness or reliability. As for the others, all of them are trustworthy.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ liked dreams. He asked, "Did anyone of you see a dream last night?" Aisha replied, "I saw as if three moons fell down in my chamber." The Prophet ﷺ said to her, "If your dream is true, it means that three are the best or most honorable women on Earth." When the Prophet ﷺ died, he was buried in her chamber. Abu Bakr then said to her, "This is one of your moons, and he is the best of them." Then Abu Bakr died and was buried in her chamber, followed by Umar.
