Patience in times of oppression

bukhari:7068 – Muḥammad b. Yūsuf > Sufyān > al-Zubayr b. ʿAdiyy

We came to Anas b. Malik and complained to him about what we were suffering from al-Hajjaj. He said: "Be patient, for no time will come upon you except that the one after it will be worse than it, until you meet your Lord." I heard it from your Prophet ﷺ.

البخاري:٧٠٦٨ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ قَالَ

أَتَيْنَا أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ فَشَكَوْنَا إِلَيْهِ مَا نَلْقَى مِنَ الْحَجَّاجِ. فَقَالَ: «اصْبِرُوا، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَأْتِي عَلَيْكُمْ زَمَانٌ إِلَّا الَّذِي بَعْدَهُ شَرٌّ مِنْهُ حَتَّى تَلْقَوْا رَبَّكُمْ». سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ.

tirmidhi:2206 – Muḥammad b. Bashhār > Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd > Sufyān al-Thawrī > al-Zubayr b. ʿAdī > Dakhalnā > Anas b. Mālik > Fashakawnā Ilayh Mā Nalqá from al-Ḥajjāj

"We entered upon Anas bin Malik. We complained to him about what we were experiencing from Al-Hajjaj. So he said: 'There will not be a year, except that the one that is after it will be more evil than it, until you meet your Lord. I heard this from your Prophet ﷺ."'

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Ṣaḥīḥ.

الترمذي:٢٢٠٦ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ قَالَ دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

فَشَكَوْنَا إِلَيْهِ مَا نَلْقَى مِنَ الْحَجَّاجِ فَقَالَ مَا مِنْ عَامٍ إِلاَّ الَّذِي بَعْدَهُ شَرٌّ مِنْهُ حَتَّى تَلْقَوْا رَبَّكُمْ سَمِعْتُ هَذَا مِنْ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

We went to Anas bin Malik and complained about the wrong we were suffering at the hand of Al- Hajjaj. Anas bin Malik said, "Be patient till you meet your Lord, for no time will come upon you but the time following it will be worse than it. I heard that from the Prophet." (Using translation from Bukhārī 7068)

[Machine] No day or time will come upon you, except that which follows it is worse than it, as I have heard it from your Prophet ﷺ.
