that he was asked about a man who had vowed that he would fast all the days of his life then the day of ʿId al Adha or ʿId-al-Fitr came. ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar said: You have indeed a good example in Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He did not fast on the day of ʿId al Adha or the day of ʿId-al-Fitr, and we do not intend fasting on these two days.

أَنْ لاَ يَأْتِيَ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمٌ إِلاَّ صَامَ فَوَافَقَ يَوْمَ أَضْحًى أَوْ فِطْرٍ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَصُومُ يَوْمَ الأَضْحَى وَالْفِطْرِ وَلاَ يَرَى صِيَامَهُمَا

[Machine] That he would not have a day called the Day unless he fasted in it. This happened on the Day of Sacrifice or the Day of Breaking the Fast. Ibn Umar said, "You had a good example in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not fast on the Day of Sacrifice or the Day of Breaking the Fast and did not command to fast on them."

[Machine] That day should not pass without him fasting, and that day happened to be the day of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr. Ibn Umar said to him, "Indeed, you had a good example in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." Then he said, "He did not fast on the day of Eid al-Fitr or the day of Eid al-Adha, nor did he consider fasting on these days obligatory."
