The Prophet ﷺ sent ʿAli to Khalid to bring the Khumus (of the booty) and I hated ʿAli, and ʿAli had taken a bath (after a sexual act with a slave-girl from the Khumus). I said to Khalid, "Don't you see this (i.e. ʿAli)?" When we reached the Prophet ﷺ I mentioned that to him. He said, "O Buraida! Do you hate ʿAli?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Do you hate him, for he deserves more than that from the Khumlus."

البخاري:٤٣٥٠ – حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ مَنْجُوفٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ؓ قَالَ

بَعَثَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلِيًّا إِلَى خَالِدٍ لِيَقْبِضَ الْخُمُسَ وَكُنْتُ أُبْغِضُ عَلِيًّا وَقَدِ اغْتَسَلَ فَقُلْتُ لِخَالِدٍ أَلاَ تَرَى إِلَى هَذَا فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ يَا بُرَيْدَةُ أَتُبْغِضُ عَلِيًّا فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ لاَ تُبْغِضْهُ فَإِنَّ لَهُ فِي الْخُمُسِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Ali to Khalid ibn Al-Walid to distribute the fifth (of the spoils of war). Khalid said, "Go and collect the fifth." Ali went and his head was bleeding. Khalid then said to Buraida, "Don't you see what Ali is doing to himself?" Buraida replied, "I used to dislike Ali." Khalid said, "Do not dislike him." Buraida said, "O Khalid, do you dislike Ali?" Khalid said, "No." Buraida then said, "I love him." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Love him, for he has more than that in his fifth portion."

أحمد:٢٣٠٣٦ – حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ مَنْجُوفٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلِيًّا إِلَى خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ لِيَقْسِمَ الْخُمُسَ وَقَالَ رَوْحٌ مَرَّةً لِيَقْبِضَ الْخُمُسَ قَالَ فَأَصْبَحَ عَلِيٌّ وَرَأْسُهُ يَقْطُرُ قَالَ فَقَالَ خَالِدٌ لِبُرَيْدَةَ أَلَا تَرَى إِلَى مَا يَصْنَعُ هَذَا لِمَا صَنَعَ عَلِيٌّ؟ قَالَ وَكُنْتُ أُبْغِضُ عَلِيًّا قَالَ فَقَالَ يَا بُرَيْدَةُ أَتُبْغِضُ عَلِيًّا؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَلَا تُبْغِضْهُ قَالَ رَوْحٌ مَرَّةً فَأَحِبَّهُ فَإِنَّ لَهُ فِي الْخُمُسِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ

"عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ قَالَ: بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى خَالِدِ بنِ الْوَلِيدِ

ليُقَسِّمَ (*) الْخُمُسَ، وَفِى لَفْظٍ: لِيَقْبِضَ الْخُمُسَ، فَأصْبَحَ عَلِىٌّ وَرَأسُهُ تَقْطُرُ، فَقَالَ خَالِدٌ: أَلاَ تَرَى مَا يَصْنَعُ هَذَا! فَلَمَّا رَجَعْتُ إِلَى النَّبِىِّ ﷺ ! أَتُبْغِضُ عَلَيّا؟ قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَلاَ تُبْغِضْهُ، وَفِى لَفْظٍ قَالَ: فَأحِبَّهُ فَإَنَّ لَهُ فِى الْخُمُسِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ".
