"The people used to give their gifts [to the Prophet ﷺ] on 'Aishah's day." She said: "So my companions gathered with Umm Salamah and they said 'O Umm Salamah! The people give their gifts on 'Aishah's day, and we desire good as 'Aishah desires, so tell the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to order the people to give (their gifts to) him no matter where he is.' So Umm Salamah said that, and he turned away from her. Then he turned back to her and she repeated the words saying: 'O Messenger of Allah! My companions have mentioned that the people give their gifts on 'Aishah's day, so order the people to give them no matter where you are.' So upon the third time she said that, he said: 'O Umm Salamah! Do not bother me about 'Aishah! For Revelation has not been sent down upon me while I was under the blankets of a woman among you other than her.'"  

كَانَ النَّاسُ يَتَحَرَّوْنَ بِهَدَايَاهُمْ يَوْمَ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ فَاجْتَمَعَ صَوَاحِبَاتِي إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقُلْنَ يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ إِنَّ النَّاسَ يَتَحَرَّوْنَ بِهَدَايَاهُمْ يَوْمَ عَائِشَةَ وَإِنَّا نُرِيدُ الْخَيْرَ كَمَا تُرِيدُ عَائِشَةُ فَقُولِي لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَأْمُرِ النَّاسَ يُهْدُونَ إِلَيْهِ أَيْنَمَا كَانَ فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا ثُمَّ عَادَ إِلَيْهَا فَأَعَادَتِ الْكَلاَمَ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ صَوَاحِبَاتِي قَدْ ذَكَرْنَ أَنَّ النَّاسَ يَتَحَرَّوْنَ بِهَدَايَاهُمْ يَوْمَ عَائِشَةَ فَأْمُرِ النَّاسَ يُهْدُونَ أَيْنَمَا كُنْتَ فَلَمَّا كَانَتِ الثَّالِثَةُ قَالَتْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ لاَ تُؤْذِينِي فِي عَائِشَةَ فَإِنَّهُ مَا أُنْزِلَ عَلَىَّ الْوَحْىُ وَأَنَا فِي لِحَافِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْكُنَّ غَيْرَهَا وَقَدْ رَوَى بَعْضُهُمْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مُرْسَلاً هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ رُمَيْثَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ شَيْئًا مِنْ هَذَا وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ قَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَلَى رِوَايَاتٍ مُخْتَلِفَةٍ وَقَدْ رَوَى سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلاَلٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ  

[Machine] To converse with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he commands the people to obey him wherever he is, for the people supplicate to him with their gifts on the day of Aisha. And indeed, we love goodness just as Aisha loves it. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent and did not respond to me. Then my companions came to me and I informed them that he ﷺ did not speak to me. They said, "By Allah, do not claim this, and why now are you making this claim?" She (Umm Salamah) said, "So I turned back and spoke to him and said, my companions have told me that I should speak to you and command the people to obey you wherever you are." So I said to him the same thing twice or three times. In response, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent regarding that matter. Then he said, "Oh Umm Salamah, do not harm me regarding Aisha, for by Allah, revelation has not descended upon me while I am in the garment of a woman from my wives other than Aisha." She said, "So I sought refuge in Allah from ever harming you regarding Aisha."  

أَنْ أُكَلِّمَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَأْمُرَ النَّاسَ فَيُهْدُونَ لَهُ حَيْثُ كَانَ فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ يَتَحَرَّوْنَ بِهَدَايَاهُمْ يَوْمَ عَائِشَةَ وَإِنَّا نُحِبُّ الْخَيْرَ كَمَا تُحِبُّهُ عَائِشَةُ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمْ يُرَاجِعْنِي فَجَاءَنِي صَوَاحِبِي فَأَخْبَرْتُهُنَّ بِأَنَّهُ ﷺ لَمْ يُكَلِّمْنِي فَقُلْنَ وَاللَّهُ لَا تَدَعِيهِ وَمَا هَذَا حِينَ تَدَعِيهِ قَالَتْ فَدَارَ فَكَلَّمْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ صَوَاحِبِي قُلْنَ لِي أَنْ أُكَلِّمَكَ تَأْمُرُ النَّاسَ فَيُهْدُونَ لَكَ حَيْثُ كُنْتَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مِثْلَ الْمَقَالَةِ الْأُولَى مَرَّتَيْنِ أَو ثَلَاثًا كُلُّ ذَلِكَ يَسْكُتُ عَنْهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَالَ «يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ لَا تُؤْذِينِي فِي عَائِشَةَ فَإِنِّي وَاللَّهِ مَا نَزَلَ الْوَحْيُ عَلَيَّ وَأَنَا فِي ثَوْبِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ نِسَائِي غَيْرَ عَائِشَةَ» قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ أَنْ أَسُوءَكَ فِي عَائِشَةَ  

[Machine] "To speak to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ask him to command the people to give me their allegiance wherever he may be, for people seek his favor by giving him gifts on the day of Aisha. And indeed, we love goodness just as Aisha loves it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent and did not respond to me. Then my companions came to me, and I told them that he did not speak to me. They replied, "By Allah, we will not leave him." So, I spoke to him again, saying the same words two or three times. Still, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent. Then he said, 'O Umm Salamah, do not harm me with regards to Aisha. By Allah, revelation has not come to me while I am in the house of any of my wives except Aisha.'" I said, "I seek refuge in Allah from harming you in relation to Aisha."  

أَنْ أُكَلِّمَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَأْمُرَ النَّاسَ فَيُهْدُوا لَهُ حَيْثُ كَانَ فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ يَتَحَرَّوْنَ بِهَدَايَاهُمْ يَوْمَ عَائِشَةَ وَإِنَّا نُحِبُّ الْخَيْرَ كَمَا تُحِبُّ عَائِشَةَ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَلَمْ يُرَاجِعْنِي فَجَاءَنِي صَوَاحِبِي فَأَخْبَرْتُهُنَّ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُكَلِّمْنِي فَقُلْنَ وَاللَّهِ لَا نَدَعُهُ قَالَتْ فَكَلَّمْتُهُ مِثْلَ الْمَقَالَةِ الْأُولَى مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا كُلُّ ذَلِكَ يَسْكُتُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَالَ «يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ لَا تُؤْذِينِي فِي عَائِشَةَ فَإِنِّي وَاللَّهِ مَا نَزَلَ الْوَحْيُ عَلَيَّ وَأَنَا فِي بَيْتِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ نِسَائِي غَيْرَ عَائِشَةَ» قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ أَنْ أَسُوءَكَ فِي عَائِشَةَ
