When God and His Messenger have decided on a matter that concerns them, it is not fitting for any believing man or woman to claim freedom of choice in that matter: whoever disobeys God and His Messenger is far astray.
A paternal uncle of hers whose name was Anas said: "Ibn 'Abbas said: Does not Allah say: "And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad) gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it).'? He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Does not Allah say: 'It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'I bear witness that the Prophet of Allah [SAW] forbade An-Naqir, Al-Muqayyar, Ad-Dubba', and Al-Hantam.'"

[AI] There was a peacock praying two units after Asr prayer, so Ibn Abbas said to him, "Leave them." He said, "It was only forbidden to perform them on a ladder." Ibn Abbas said, "Indeed, prayer after Asr has been forbidden, so I do not know whether you will be punished for it or rewarded, for Allah says, 'It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.'" (Quran 33:36) Sufyan said, "He considers it to be on a ladder, meaning he prays from after Asr until the night."

Tauus replied: 'We have only been prohibited from them if they are made to resemble the obligatory prayer before sunset.' Ibn Abbas said: 'Verily, the Prophet ﷺ used to prohibit prayer after Asr, and I do not know if one would be punished for it or rewarded, for Allah Almighty says: 'And it is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair.'
