[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, should I fast while traveling even though I used to fast a lot?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "If you wish, then fast. But if you wish, then break your fast."  

البيهقي:٨١٥٦ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي فِي آخَرِينَ قَالُوا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ أنبأ الشَّافِعِيُّ أنبأ مَالِكٌ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ حَمْزَةَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الْأَسْلَمِيَّ قَالَ

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَصُومُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَكَانَ كَثِيرَ الصِّيَامِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَصُمْ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَأَفْطِرْ  

رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ يُوسُفَ عَنْ مَالِكٍ وَأَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ

"Hamzah said to the Messenger of Allah: 'O Messenger of Allah, should I fast while traveling?' He used to fast a great deal. The Messenger of Allah said to him: "If you wish then fast and if you wish then do not fast."'

لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَصُومُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَكَانَ كَثِيرَ الصِّيَامِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَصُمْ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَأَفْطِرْ  

malik:18-26 – Yaḥyá > Mālik > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father > Ḥamzah b. ʿAmr al-Aslamī

Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father that Hamza ibn Amr al-Aslami once said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ "Messenger of Allah, I am a man who fasts. Can I fast when travelling?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you want you can fast, and if you want you can break the fast."  

مالك:١٨-٢٦ – وَحَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ حَمْزَةَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الأَسْلَمِيَّ

قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي رَجُلٌ أَصُومُ أَفَأَصُومُ فِي السَّفَرِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَصُمْ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَأَفْطِرْ  

nasai-kubra:2626 – Muḥammad b. Salamah > Ibn al-Qāsim > Mālik > Hishām from his father > ʿĀʾishah > Ḥamzah b. ʿAmr al-Aslamī
