[Machine] The Bedouin says "Allah says: {And those who accumulate gold and silver} [Al-Tawbah 34]." Ibn Umar said, "Whoever hoards them and does not pay their zakat (charitable alms), may he be doomed. This was only before the zakat was revealed. When it was revealed, Allah made it a purification for wealth." Then he turned to me and said, "I do not care if I had as much gold as Mount Uhud, I would know its amount, purify it, and spend in obedience to Allah."  

البيهقي:٧٢٢٩أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ دَعْلَجُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ السِّجِسْتَانِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الصَّائِغُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ أنبأ أَبِي عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ وَهُوَ أَخُو زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ نَمْشِي فَلَحِقَنَا أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَالَ أَنْتَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَنْكَ فَدُلِلْتُ عَلَيْكَ فَأَخْبِرْنِي أَتَرِثُ الْعَمَّةُ؟ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ لَا أَدْرِي فَقَالَ أَنْتَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ وَلَا تَدْرِي وَقَالَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى أَنْتَ لَا تَدْرِي وَلَا نَدْرِي قَالَ نَعَمْ اذْهَبْ إِلَى الْعُلَمَاءِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَسَلْهُمْ فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ قَبَّلَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَدَيْهِ قَالَ نِعِمَّا قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ يُسْأَلُ عَمَّا لَا يَدْرِي فَقَالَ لَا أَدْرِي فَقَالَ

الْأَعْرَابِيُّ يَقُولُ اللهُ ﷻ {وَالَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ} [التوبة 34] فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ مَنْ كَنَزَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُؤَدِّ زَكَاتَهُمَا فَوَيْلٌ لَهُ إِنَّمَا كَانَ هَذَا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَنْزِلَ الزَّكَاةُ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ جَعَلَهَا اللهُ طُهْرَةً لِلْأَمْوَالِ ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ مَا أُبَالِي لَوْ كَانَ لِي مِثْلُ أُحُدٍ ذَهَبًا أَعْلَمُ عَدَدَهُ وَأُزَكِّيهِ وَأَعْمَلُ فِيهِ بِطَاعَةِ اللهِ ﷻ  

أَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مُخْتَصَرًا فَقَالَ وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ وَأَعَادَهُ فِي التَّفْسِيرِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ شَبِيبٍ

“I went out with Abdullah bin Umar, and a Bedouin met him and recited to him the words of Allah: 'And those who hoard up gold and silver (the money, the Zakah of which has not been paid) and spend them not in the way of Allah.' Ibn Umar Said to him: 'The one who hoards it and does not pay Zakat due on it, woe to him. But this was before the (ruling on) Zakat was revealed. When it was revealed, Allah made it a purification of wealth.' Then he turned away and said: 'I do not mind if I have the (the equivalent of) Uhud in gold, provided that I know how much it is and I pay Zakat on it, and I use it in obedience of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime'”
