The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would listen to the crying of a lad in the company of his mother, in prayer, and he would recite a short surah or a small surah. (Using translation from Muslim 470a)   

البيهقي:٤٠٤١ – أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ حِمْشَاذَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أنبأ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْمَعُ بُكَاءَ الصَّبِيِّ مَعَ أُمِّهِ وَهُوَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَيَقْرَأُ بِالسُّورَةِ الْخَفِيفَةِ أَوْ بِالسُّورَةِ الْقَصِيرَةِ
