[Machine] If we pray behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and one of us finishes his prayer, he should signal with his hand from his right and from his left. When he finishes, he should say, "What is the matter with any of you throwing his hand as if they are the tails of sunlit horses? Is it not sufficient for any of you to say like this?" And he pointed with his finger and greeted his brother from his right and from his left.  

البيهقي:٢٩٦١ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا وَوَكِيعٌ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ

إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَلَّمَ أَحَدُنَا أَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ مِنْ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِنْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى قَالَ مَا بَالُ أَحَدِكُمْ يَرْمِي بِيَدِهِ كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ خَيْلٍ شُمْسٍ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِي أَوَلَا يَكْفِي أَحَدَكُمْ أَنْ يَقُولَ هَكَذَا وَأَشَارَ بِأُصْبُعِهِ وَيُسَلِّمُ عَلَى أَخِيهِ مِنْ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِنْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ؟  

رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ عَنْ وَكِيعٍ وَعَنْ أَبِي كُرَيْبٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ بِمَعْنَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَمَا يَكْفِي لَمْ يَشُكَّ فِيهِ وَجَعَلَ اللَّفْظَ لِابْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ

When we prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, one of us gave the salutation and pointed with his hand to the man to his right side and left side. When he finished his prayer, he said: What is the matter that one of you points with his hand (during prayer) just like the tails of restive horses. It is sufficient for one of you, or is it not sufficient for one of you to say in this manner? And he pointed with his finger; one should salute his brother at his right and left side.  

أبو داود:٩٩٨ – حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا وَوَكِيعٌ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ابْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ

[Machine] When we used to pray behind the Prophet ﷺ , we would say as a sign with his index finger: "Peace be upon you, peace be upon you." The Prophet ﷺ then said to us, "Why do some people throw their hands during prayer as if they were the tails of wild horses at sunset? Is it not enough for one of you to place his hand on his thigh and then say the salaam by turning his hand to the right and left?"

كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قُلْنَا يَعْنِي الْإِشَارَةَ بِأُصْبُعِهِ السَّبَابَةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَقَالَ لَنَا يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَا بَالُ أَقْوَامٍ يَرْمُونَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ الْخَيْلِ الشُّمْسِ أَمَا يَكْفِي أَحَدَهُمْ أَوْ أَحَدَكُمْ أَنْ يَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ
