[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to say the following invocation when he rose from sleep at night to start the prayer: "How perfect You are, O Allah, and with Your praise, blessed is Your name, and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god but You." He then said three times, "There is no god but Allah, there is no god but Allah, there is no god but Allah." He then proclaimed three times, "Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest." He sought refuge with Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed Satan and from its whisperings, breath, and blowing. Ja'far said, "Its whisperings are death, its breath is poetry, and its blowing is arrogance." Abu Ali Ar-Rudhbary informed us that Abu Bakr bin Dasa reported that Abu Dawud said, "This narration is said to be from Ali bin Ali, from Al-Hasan, with the attribution being uncertain." The sheikh (i.e., Abu Dawud) may Allah have mercy on him, said, "Another narration about the supplication of 'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika' has been reported from Laith from Abu 'Ubaydah bin 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud, as a Marfu' Hadith, but it is not strong. And another narration has been reported from another chain of narrators from 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). The most authentic narration in this regard is that it is a Mawquf Athar (i.e., a statement of a companion) on Umar bin Al-Khattab."
