[Machine] Narrated by Nafi' from Qais bin Abi Hazim from 'Uthbah bin Farqad, who said, "The wine that 'Umar drank had been mixed with water." And it is mentioned from Zaid bin Aslam that when wine became sour for the companions of the Messenger of Allah, they would break it with water.  

البيهقي:١٧٤٥٠وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ أنبأ أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْجُوزِيُّ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي الدُّنْيَا حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ أنبأ مَحْبُوبُ بْنُ مُوسَى أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ قَالَ وَاللهِ مَا قَبَضَ عُمَرُ ؓ وَجْهَهُ عَنِ الْإِدَاوَةِ حِينَ ذَاقَهَا إِلَّا أَنَّهَا تَخَلَّلَتْ وَرُوِّينَا عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ

عَنْ عُمَرَ ؓ بِنَحْوٍ مِنْ رِوَايَةِ نَافِعٍ وَيُذْكَرُ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيذُ الَّذِي شَرِبَهُ عُمَرُ ؓ قَدْ تَخَلَّلَ وَيُذْكَرُ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ كَانُوا إِذَا حَمُضَ عَلَيْهِمُ النَّبِيذُ كَسَرُوهُ بِالْمَاءِ
