(The Verse of) prohibiting alcoholic drinks was revealed when there were in Medina five kinds of (alcoholic) drinks none of which was produced from grapes. (Using translation from Bukhārī 4616)

البيهقي:١٧٣٥٨ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو صَالِحٍ يَعْنِي خَلَفَ الْخِيَامَ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مَعْقِلٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

نَزَلَ تَحْرِيمُ الْخَمْرِ وَإِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَخَمْسَةُ أَشْرِبَةٍ مَا فِيهَا شَرَابُ الْعِنَبِ

أَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ هَكَذَا
