[Machine] The diya (blood money) during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was one hundred camels for each camel led by a rope. That is four thousand dirhams. When Umar became the caliph, the price of camels increased and the value of paper money decreased. Umar then set the price at two ropes for each camel, which is eight thousand dirhams. The price of camels continued to increase and the value of paper money continued to decrease until Umar set the price at twelve thousand pieces of paper or one thousand dinars for each camel, two hundred cows, and two thousand sheep.
