[Machine] "Ban al-Khattab says, beware of excessive dowries for women, for if it were something that gained the pleasure of Allah or the respect of people, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would have been the most entitled to it. He did not marry any of his wives or give his daughters in marriage for more than twelve uqiyyah, which is four hundred and eighty dirhams. And indeed, one of them would exaggerate with the dowry of his wife until enmity remains in himself, saying, 'I have been burdened with the obligation of nearness.' This narration is also reported by Hammad ibn Zaid from Ayyub, and in another narration of some of them from Ibn Sirin, it is twelve and a half uqiyyah, if it is authentic and agrees with the narration of Abu Salamah from Aisha."
