[Machine] That Umar sent him as a trustworthy individual and a man fell on the wife of another man, so Hamzah took custody of the man until he came to Umar, and Umar had already whipped him a hundred times, but he believed them and excused him due to ignorance.

البيهقي:١١٤١٥ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو صَالِحِ بْنُ أَبِي طَاهِرٍ أنبأ جَدِّي يَحْيَى بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ دُرُسْتَ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ثنا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ مُضَرِّبٍ قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ الْغَدَاةَ مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَذَكَرَ قِصَّةَ ابْنِ النَّوَّاحَةِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ وَشَهَادَتِهِمْ لمُسَيْلِمَةَ الْكَذَّابِ بِالرِّسَالَةِ وَإِنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ أَمَرَ بِقَتْلِ ابْنِ النَّوَّاحَةِ ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ اسْتَشَارَ النَّاسَ فِي أُولَئِكَ النَّفَرِ فَقَامَ جَرِيرٌ وَالْأَشْعَثُ فَقَالَا اسْتَتِبْهُمْ وَكَفِّلْهُمْ عَشَائِرَهُمْ فَاسْتَتَابَهُمْ فَتَابُوا فَكفَّلَهُمْ عَشَائِرَهُمْ ذَكَرَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي التَّرْجَمَةِ بِلَا إِسْنَادٍ قَالَ الْبُخَارِيُّ وَقَالَ أَبُو الزِّنَادِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْأَسْلَمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

bukhari:2290 – Abū al-Zinād > Muḥammad b. Ḥamzah b. ʿAmr al-Aslamī from his father > ʿUmar

'Umar (ra) sent him (i.e. Hamza) as a Sadaqa / Zakat collector. A man had committed illegal sexual intercourse with the slave girl of his wife. Hamza took (personal) sureties for the adulterer till they came to 'Umar. 'Umar had lashed the adulterer one hundred lashes. 'Umar confirmed their claim (that the adulterer had already been punished) and excused him because of being Ignorant. Jarir Al-Ash'ath said to Ibn Mas'ud regarding renegades (i.e., those who became infidels after embracing Islam), "Let them repent and take (personal) sureties for them." They repented and their relatives stood sureties for them. According to Hammad, if somebody stands surety for another person and that person dies, the person giving surety will be released from responsibility. According to Al-Hakam, his responsibilities continues.
