Abu Hurairah reported the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ as saying “When you travel in fertile country, give the Camel their due (from the ground), and when you travel in time of drought make them go quickly. When you intend to encamp in the last hours of the night, keep away from the roads.” (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2569)  

أحمد:٨٤٤٢ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ وَعَفَّانُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا سَافَرْتُمْ فِي الْخِصْبِ فَأَعْطُوا الْإِبِلَ حَقَّهَا وَإِذَا سَافَرْتُمْ فِي الْجَدْبِ فَأَسْرِعُوا السَّيْرَ وَإِذَا أَرَدْتُمُ التَّعْرِيسَ فَتَنَكَّبُوا عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا سَافَرْتُمْ فِي الْخِصْبِ فَأَعْطُوا الإِبِلَ حَقَّهَا وَإِذَا سَافَرْتُمْ فِي الْجَدْبِ فَأَسْرِعُوا السَّيْرَ فَإِذَا أَرَدْتُمُ التَّعْرِيسَ فَتَنَكَّبُوا عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ  

ذِكْرُ الْأَمْرِ بِالْإِسْرَاعِ فِي السَّيْرِ عَلَى ذَوَاتِ الْأَرْبَعِ إِذَا سَافَرَ الْمَرْءُ فِي السَّنَةِ عَلَيْهَا

ibnhibban:2703 – al-Faḍl b. al-Ḥubāb > Musaddad b. Musarhad > Khālid b. ʿAbdullāh > Suhayl b. Abū Ṣāliḥ from his father > Abū Hurayrah

When you journey through a fertile land, you should (go slow and) give the camels a chance to graze in the land. When you travel In an arid (land) where there is scarcity of vegetation, you should quicken their pace (lest your camels grow feeble and emaciated for lack of fodder). When you halt for the night, avoid (pitching your tent on) the road, for it is the abode of noxious little animals at night. (Using translation from Muslim 1926a)   

ابن حبّان:٢٧٠٣ – أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا سَافَرْتُمْ فِي الْخِصْبِ فَأَعْطُوا الْإِبِلَ حَقَّهَا وَإِذَا سَافَرْتُمْ فِي السَّنَةِ فَأَسْرِعُوا السَّيْرَ عَلَيْهَا وَإِذَا عَرَّسْتُمْ فَاجْتَنِبُوا الطَّرِيقَ فَإِنَّهَا مَأْوَى الْهَوَامِّ»
