[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a journey, and I had bought a curtain with a picture on it, so I hung it to cover a part of my house. When he entered, he disliked what I had done and said, "Are you trying to cover the curtain, O Aisha?" So I immediately took it down and tore it into two pieces. I saw him leaning on one of them, and it had a picture on it.

أحمد:٢٦١٠٣ – حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أُمِّهِ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ سَفَرٍ وَقَدْ اشْتَرَيْتُ نَمَطًا فِيهِ صُورَةٌ، فَسَتَرْتُهُ عَلَى سَهْوَةِ بَيْتِي، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ، كَرِهَ مَا صَنَعْتُ، وَقَالَ: «أَتَسْتُرِينَ الْجُدُرَ يَا عَائِشَةُ؟» فَطَرَحْتُهُ فَقَطَعْتُهُ مِرْفَقَتَيْنِ، فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى إِحْدَاهُمَا، وَفِيهَا صُورَةٌ

The Prophet ﷺ entered upon me while there was a curtain having pictures (of animals) in the house. His face got red with anger, and then he got hold of the curtain and tore it into pieces. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Such people as paint these pictures will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection ."

Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a journey when I had placed a curtain of mine having pictures over (the door of) a chamber of mine. When Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw it, he tore it and said, "The people who will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection will be those who try to make the like of Allah's creations." So we turned it (i.e., the curtain) into one or two cushions.

البخاري:٥٩٥٤ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ الْقَاسِمِ وَمَا بِالْمَدِينَةِ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَفْضَلُ مِنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ سَفَرٍ وَقَدْ سَتَرْتُ بِقِرَامٍ لِي عَلَى سَهْوَةٍ لِي فِيهَا تَمَاثِيلُ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَتَكَهُ وَقَالَ أَشَدُّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الَّذِينَ يُضَاهُونَ بِخَلْقِ اللَّهِ قَالَتْ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ وِسَادَةً أَوْ وِسَادَتَيْنِ

muslim:2107b – Zuhayr b. Ḥarb > Ismāʿīl b. Ibrāhīm > Dāwud > ʿAzrah > Ḥumayd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Saʿd b. Hishām > ʿĀʾishah

We had a curtain with us which had portraits of birds upon it. Whenever a visitor came, he found them in front of him. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: Change them, for whenever I enter the room) I see them and it brings to my mind (the pleasures) of worldly life. She said: We had with us a sheet which had silk badges upon it and we used to wear it. This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Ibn Muthanna but with this addition: 'Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not command us to tear that."

كَانَ لَنَا سِتْرٌ فِيهِ تِمْثَالُ طَائِرٍ وَكَانَ الدَّاخِلُ إِذَا دَخَلَ اسْتَقْبَلَهُ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَوِّلِي هَذَا فَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَخَلْتُ فَرَأَيْتُهُ ذَكَرْتُ الدُّنْيَا قَالَتْ وَكَانَتْ لَنَا قَطِيفَةٌ كُنَّا نَقُولُ عَلَمُهَا حَرِيرٌ فَكُنَّا نَلْبَسُهَا حَدَّثَنِيهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ وَعَبْدُ الأَعْلَى بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَزَادَ فِيهِ يُرِيدُ عَبْدَ الأَعْلَى فَلَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِقَطْعِهِ
