“If one of the members of his family died, Hudhaifah would say: ‘Do not inform anyone of it, for I am afraid that that would be a public death announcement. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with these two ears of mine forbidding making public death announcements.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1476)   

أحمد:٢٣٤٥٥حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ حَدَّثَنَا حَبِيبُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الْعَبْسِيُّ عَنْ بِلَالٍ الْعَبْسِيِّعَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا مَاتَ لَهُ مَيِّتٌ قَالَ

لَا تُؤْذِنُوا بِهِ أَحَدًا إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ نَعْيًا إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنِ النَّعْيِ

Hudaifah (bin Al-Yaman) said: "When I do not announce about me to anyone, indeed I fear that it would be An-Na'i, and I heard the Messenger of Allah prohibiting from An-Na'i."
