[Machine] Ali asked Abu Muslim, "How are you?" He replied, "I am fine." Ali then said, "Will you come out with me to these people and support me?" Abu Muslim answered, "Yes, if you are pleased with what I give you." Ali asked, "And what is it?" The sheikh said, "My dear, bring me my sword." She brought the sheath to him, and he placed it in his room. He took out some of it and lifted his head towards Ali, saying, "If my beloved, ﷺ , and your cousin has entrusted me, in times of conflict between Muslims, to use a wooden sword as my weapon, then this is my sword. If you wish, I will come out with it with you." Ali replied, "We have no need for you or your sword." So he returned from the door of the room without entering.

“When ‘Ali bin Abu Talib came to Basrah, he entered upon my father and said: ‘O Abu Muslim, will you not help me against these people?’ He said: ‘Of course.’ So he called a slave woman of his and said: ‘O slave woman, bring me my sword.’ So she brought it, and he unsheathed it a span, and (I saw that) it was made of wood. He said: ‘My close friend and your cousin ﷺ advised me, if tribulation (Fitnah) arose among the Muslims, that I should take a sword of wood. If you wish I will go out with you.’ He said: ‘I have no need of you or of your sword.’”
