[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told me something he heard, saying: "The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was fond of righteous dreams and would inquire about them. One day, he asked: 'Who among you has seen a dream?' A man replied: 'I have, O Messenger of Allah, I saw as if scales descended from the sky and you were weighed against Abu Bakr, and you outweighed him. Then Abu Bakr was weighed against Umar and Abu Bakr outweighed Umar. Then Umar was weighed against Uthman and Umar outweighed Uthman. Then the scales were lifted.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pondered over it and said: 'The leadership comes after Prophethood, then Allah gives the kingdom to whomever He wills.' Affan said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was pleased with it, while Hammad said that it saddened him."

[Machine] Narrated to us something he heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to be pleased with good dreams and ask about them. One day he said, 'Which of you had a dream?' A man said, 'I had a dream that I saw as if a balance was lowered from the sky and I and Abu Bakr were weighed, and you were heavier than Abu Bakr. Then Abu Bakr and Umar were weighed, and Abu Bakr was heavier than Umar. Then Umar and Uthman were weighed, and Umar was heavier than Uthman. Then the balance was lifted and the dream ended.' Hamad also mentioned this dream, and it troubled him. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The caliphate (succession) of prophethood and then Allah gives the kingdom to whom He wills.' He said, 'It upset our stomachs, and we were expelled.' Ziyad said, 'Abu Bakr, did you not find any other hadith to narrate except this?' He replied, 'No, by Allah, I will not narrate anything except this until I part from you.' So we left. Then he called us again and said, 'O Abu Bakr, narrate to us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' So I narrated it to him and he patted me on the chest and we were expelled. Ziyad said, 'Abu Bakr, did you not find any other hadith to narrate except this?' He replied, 'No, by Allah, I will not narrate anything except this until I part from you.' So we left and spent some days. Then he called us again and said, 'O Abu Bakr, narrate to us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' So I narrated it to him and he patted me on the chest. Muawiyah said, 'Are you speaking about the kingdom? We have already accepted the kingdom.'"

[Machine] And Abdul Rahman said, "We went to Muawiyah to offer our condolences to him, along with Ziyad, and Abu Bakrah was with us. When we arrived, he was not impressed by the delegation, but he was impressed by us. He said, 'O Abu Bakrah, tell us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' Abu Bakrah said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was impressed by good dreams and he would ask about them.' One day, he asked, 'Who among you has seen a dream?' A man from the people said, 'I saw a scale descending from the sky, and you and Abu Bakr were weighed in it, and you outweighed Abu Bakr. Then Abu Bakr and Umar were weighed in it, and Abu Bakr outweighed Umar. Then Umar and Uthman were weighed in it, and Umar outweighed Uthman. Then the scale was lifted, and the Prophet ﷺ asked, 'What was the first thing it indicated?' The man said, 'The caliphate after prophethood.' Then Allah gives the caliphate to whomever He wills.' Muawiyah said, 'Our hearts sank when we heard this, and we were expelled. But the next day, we returned.' Muawiyah asked Abu Bakrah again, 'Tell us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' Abu Bakrah mentioned the same dream again, and Muawiyah said, 'Are you saying that we are kings? We are content with the caliphate.'"
