[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for forgiveness and mercy for his nation on the evening of Arafa. He prayed abundantly and Allah (glory be to Him) answered him saying, "I have forgiven your nation except for those who wronged one another." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "O Lord, indeed You are capable of forgiving the oppressor and giving the oppressed a better reward than what they have suffered." There was no one present at that time except for one man who smiled. The next morning, the Prophet ﷺ called for prayer at Muzdalifah and he started praying again for his nation. The Prophet ﷺ soon smiled and some of his Companions said, "O Messenger of Allah, by my father and mother, you smiled in an hour that you never smiled before. So what made you smile?" He replied, "I smiled because I saw the enemy of Allah, Iblis, when he realized that Allah has answered my supplication and forgiven the wrongdoers in my nation. He became filled with despair and started to call for destruction and hellfire upon himself, and he rubbed dirt on his head. So I smiled at what he was doing out of his despair."

“I have forgiven them, except for the wrongdoer, with whom I will settle the score in favor of the one whom he wronged.” He said: “O Lord, if You will, then grant Paradise to the one who is wronged, and forgive the wrongdoer.” No response came (that evening). The next day at Muzdalifah he repeated the supplication, and received a response to what he asked for. He (the narrator) said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed,” or he said, “He smiled. Abu Bakr and ‘Umar said to him: ‘May my father and mother be ransomed for you, this is not a time when you usually laugh. What made you laugh, may Allah make your years filled with laughter?’ He said: ‘The enemy of Allah, Iblis, when he came to know that Allah answered my prayer and forgiven my nation, took some dust and started to sprinkle it on his head, uttering cries of woe and doom, and what I saw of his anguish made me laugh.’”

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed on the eve of Arafat to his Ummah for forgiveness and mercy. He supplicated abundantly, and Allah the Almighty revealed to him, "I have forgiven them all except for the wrongs they commit against each other. As for their sins between Me and them, I have forgiven them." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "O Lord, You are able to reward this oppressed one better than his oppression, and You are able to forgive this oppressor." However, he did not receive an answer that evening. When it was the morning of Muzdalifah, he repeated his prayer, and Allah answered him, saying, "I have forgiven them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled, and when some of his companions asked him about it, he said, "I smiled at the enemy of Allah, Iblis, for when he learned that Allah had answered my prayer for my Ummah, he sank into despair and began calling for woe and destruction upon himself, and he threw dust on his head."
