[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ after he had finished from the people of Badr, with the son of Furass for me. So I said, "O Muhammad, I have come to you with the son of Al-Qarha to take him as a prisoner." He said, "I have no need for him, but if you want, I will give you some of the chosen armor from the spoils of Badr." So I said, "I would not have come to capture you today with a sudden attack." He said, "I have no need for him." Then he said, "O Bilal, take the bag of provisions and give him some dates." When I turned away, he said, "Indeed, he is from the best of Banu Amir." He said, "By Allah, I will undoubtedly surprise my family when I return. A rider approached and I asked him, 'From where are you?' He said, 'From Makkah.' So I asked, 'What is the situation with the people?' He said, 'They were defeated by Muhammad ﷺ.' I said, 'My mother has made me lose my mind. By Allah, if I were to embrace Islam today and then ask her for advice, she would surely cut my throat.'"

[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ after his return from the Battle of Badr, with the son of Faras by the name of Al-Qarha. I said, "O Muhammad, I have brought you the son of Al-Qarha for you to take as your adopted son." He replied, "I have no need for him." So, I said, "If you wish, I will ransom you with the finest armor from the spoils of Badr." He said, "I have no need for it." Then he said, "O Dhu Al-Jushan, will you not embrace Islam and be among the first followers of this faith?" I replied, "No." He asked, "Why not?" I said, "I have seen your people's enthusiasm for you." He asked, "So, how did you learn about their valor in the Battle of Badr?" I said, "I have heard about it." He said, "We guide you." I replied, "If you were to conquer the Kaaba and live in it." He said, "Perhaps, if you live long enough, you will witness that." Then he said to Bilal, "Take some dates from the man's bag and give it to him." As I was leaving, he said, "Verily, he is one of the finest knights of Banu Amir." I said, "May my mother lose me if I were to embrace Islam today, but I would surely kill him if I had him in my power."

Then he said, "O owner of the two garments, will you not accept Islam so that you may be among the first in this matter?" I said, "No." He said, "Why?" I said, "I have seen your people turn away from you." Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah said in his narration, "They played with you." He said, "So how did you learn about their wrestling at Badr?" I said, "It has reached me." He said, "Do you have any disagreement with them?" I said, "Yes, for you to conquer and inhabit the Ka'bah." He said, "Perhaps if you live, you will see that." He said, "O Bilal, take the man's bag and give him some dates." When I turned away, he said, "He is one of the best knights of Banu 'Amir." He said, "By Allah, I will reach my family rapidly." Then a rider approached and I asked, "Where are you from?" He said, "From Makkah." I asked, "What did the people do?" He said, "By Allah, Muhammad has indeed prevailed over it and inhabited it." I said, "May my mother lose me! By Allah, if I embrace Islam today and then ask her for advice, I will cut her off." Abu Muslim said, "Musaddad narrated to me from Ibn Al-Mubarak that his name was Shurahbil, and he was only called Al-Jawshan because he had a prominent chest."
