Abu Hurayra said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, 'Which people are the most generous?'' He replied, 'The most generous of them in the sight of Allah are those with the most taqwa.' They said, 'That is not what we are asking about.' He said, 'The most generous of people was Yusuf, the Prophet of Allah, son of the Prophet of Allah, who was the son of the Intimate Friend of Allah (Ibrahim).' They said, 'That is not what we are asking about.' He said, 'Are you asking about those of Arab origin?' 'Yes,' they replied. He said, 'The best of you in the Jahiliyya is the best of you in Islam when you have understanding from Allah)."

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَكْرَمُ؟ قَالَ أَكْرَمُهُمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ أَتْقَاهُمْ قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ فَأَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ يُوسُفُ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللهِ ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللهِ قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونِي؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَخِيَارُكُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُكُمْ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا

It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, who is the most honorable of people?" He said, "The most God-fearing of them." They said, "That is not what we are asking you about." He said, "Then Yusuf, the Prophet of Allah ﷻ, son of the Prophet of Allah ﷻ, son of the Prophet of Allah ﷻ, son of the intimate friend of Allah ﷻ." They said, "That is not what we are asking you about." He said, "Then you are asking about the lineages of the Arabs. The best of them in the Age of Ignorance are the best of them in Islam, if they gain understanding."

قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، مَنْ أَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ؟ قَالَ: «أَتْقَاهُمْ». فَقَالُوا: لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ. قَالَ: «فَيُوسُفُ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللَّهِ». قَالُوا: لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ. قَالَ: «فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونَ، خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا».

Some people asked the Prophet: "Who is the most honorable amongst the people?" He replied, "The most honorable among them is the one who is the most Allah-fearing." They said, "O Allah's Prophet! We do not ask about this." He said, "Then the most honorable person is Joseph, Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Khalil." They said, "We do not ask about this." He said, "Then you want to ask me about the Arabs' descent?" They said, "Yes." He said, "Those who were best in the pre-lslamic period, are the best in Islam, if they comprehend (the religious knowledge).

قِيلَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ مَنْ أَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ قَالَ أَكْرَمُهُمْ أَتْقَاهُمْ قَالُوا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ فَأَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ يُوسُفُ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللَّهِ قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونِي قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَخِيَارُكُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُكُمْ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا

Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Who is the most honorable amongst the people?" He replied, "The most Allah fearing." The people said, "We do not want to ask you about this." He said, "The most honorable person is Joseph, Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Khalil" The people said, 'We do not want to ask you about this." He said," Then you want to ask me about the origins of the Arabs? People are of various origins. The best in the prelslamic period are the best in Islam, provided they comprehend (the religious knowledge).

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ أَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ قَالَ أَتْقَاهُمْ لِلَّهِ قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ فَأَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ يُوسُفُ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللَّهِ قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونِي النَّاسُ مَعَادِنُ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَامٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِهَذَا

Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Who are the most honorable of the people?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "The most honorable of them in Allah's Sight are those who keep their duty to Allah and fear Him. They said, "We do not ask you about that." He said, "Then the most honorable of the people is Joseph, Allah's prophet, the son of Allah's prophet, the son of Allah's prophet, the son of Allah's Khalil i.e. Abraham) They said, "We do not ask you about that." The Prophet ﷺ said, Do you ask about (the virtues of the ancestry of the Arabs?" They said, "Yes," He said, "Those who were the best amongst you in the Prelslamic Period are the best amongst you in Islam if they comprehend (the Islamic religion).

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَىُّ النَّاسِ أَكْرَمُ قَالَ أَكْرَمُهُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاهُمْ قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ فَأَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ يُوسُفُ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللَّهِ قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونِي قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَخِيَارُكُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُكُمْ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا

It was said to Messenger of Allah ﷺ as to who was the most worthy of respect amongst people. He said: The most God-conscious amongst you They said: It is not this that we are asking about, whereupon he said: Then he is Yusuf, the Apostle of Aliah and the son of Allah's Apostle, Ya'qub, who was also the son of Allah's Apostle, the friend of Allah (Ibrahim) They said: This is not what we are asking you. He said: You mean the tribes of Arabia? Those who are good in pre-Islamic days are good in Islam (after embracing Islam) when they get an understanding of it.

قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَنْ أَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ قَالَ أَتْقَاهُمْ قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ فَيُوسُفُ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللَّهِ قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونِي خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا

"The best of you are those best in conduct.' And the Prophet was not one who was obscene, nor one who uttered obscenities."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خِيَارُكُمْ أَحَاسِنُكُمْ أَخْلاَقًا وَلَمْ يَكُنِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَاحِشًا وَلاَ مُتَفَحِّشًا

"The best of you is the one who is best in repaying."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ خِيَارُكُمْ أَحْسَنُكُمْ قَضَاءً

It was said to Messenger of Allah ﷺ as to who was the most worthy of respect amongst people. قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَكْرَمُ؟ قَالَ «أَتْقَاهُمْ» قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ «فَيُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللَّهِ» قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ «فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونِي؟ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "People are like minerals; you will find their best during the time of ignorance and their best in Islam when they have knowledge."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ النَّاسُ مَعَادِنُ تَجِدُونَ خِيَارَهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارَهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The characteristics of people in the time of ignorance are the same as their characteristics in Islam when they acquire understanding."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ النَّاسُ مَعَادِنُ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of people in the time of ignorance are the best of them in Islam when they have deep understanding of the religion."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ النَّاسُ مَعَادِنُ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا فِي الدِّينِ

[AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "People are like mines, the best of them in the Ignorance period are the best of them in Islam when they attain understanding."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ النَّاسُ مَعَادِنٌ فَخِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا

I heard Abū al-Qāsim (the Prophet) ﷺ say, "The best of you in Islam are those with the best character, if they have a good ˹religious˺ understanding." (Using translation from Aḥmad 10066)

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ يَقُولُ خِيَارُكُمْ أَحَاسِنُكُمْ أَخْلَاقًا إِذَا فَقِهُوا

I heard Abū al-Qāsim (the Prophet) ﷺ say, "The best of you in Islam are those with the best character, if they have a good ˹religious˺ understanding."

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «خَيْرُكُمْ إِسْلَامًا أَحَاسِنُكُمْ أَخْلَاقًا إِذَا فَقِهُوا۔»

“The best of you - or among the best of you - are those who pay off their debts in the best manner.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2423)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خِيَارُكُمْ أَحَاسِنُكُمْ قَضَاءً

[AI] Regarding the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "The best among you in Islam are those who have the best character when they are knowledgeable."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ خَيْرُكُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ أَحَاسِنُكُمْ أَخْلَاقًا إِذَا فَقُهُوا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best among you in Islam are those who have the best manners when they are knowledgeable."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَيْرُكُمْ إِسْلَامًا أَحَاسِنُكُمْ أَخْلَاقًا إِذَا فَقُهُوا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "People are like mines in good and evil. The best among you in the time of ignorance are the best among you in Islam when they comprehend."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ النَّاسُ مَعَادِنُ فِي الْخَيْرِ وَالشَّرِّ خِيَارُكُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُكُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا

[AI] People are like minerals; their best qualities and worst qualities are revealed during times of ignorance. Their best qualities are revealed in Islam when they gain knowledge.

النَّاسُمَعَادِنُ فِي الْخَيْرِ وَالشَّرِّ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The character of people in the time of ignorance (before Islam) is the same as their character in Islam, if they acquire understanding."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ النَّاسُ مَعَادِنُ فَخِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said: "People are like mines, the best of them in the pre-Islamic period are the best in Islam if they gain understanding."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ النَّاسُ مَعَادِنُ فَخِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا

[AI] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'The best of people in the pre-Islamic era are the best of them in Islam if they acquire understanding.'"

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «النَّاسُ مَعَادِنُ فِي الْخَيْرِ وَالشَّرِّ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا»

[AI] It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, who is the most honorable among the people?" He said, "The most righteous of them." They said, "We are not asking about this." He said, "Then why do you ask me about the origins of the Arabs? The best of you are the best in Islam when they have understanding."

قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَنْ أَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ؟ قَالَ «أَتْقَاهُمْ» قَالُوا لَسْنَا عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ «فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونَنِي؟ خِيَارُكُمْ خِيَارُكُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا»

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ قال تجدون الناس معادن خيارهم في الجاهلية خيارهم في الإسلام

قال قيل يا رَسولَ اللهِ من أكرم الناس؟ قال أتقاهم قالوا ليس عن هذا نسألك قال فعن معادن العرب تسألون خيارهم في الجاهلية خيارهم في الإسلام إذا فقهوا

قَالَ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عن أكرم الناس؟ قال أتقاهم لله قالوا ليس عن هذا نسألك قال فعن معادن العرب تسألون قالوا نعم قال فإن خياركم في الجاهلية خياركم في الإسلام إذا فقهوا

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ قال الناس معادن كمعادن الذهب والفضة فخيارهم في الجاهلية خيارهم في الإسلام إذا فقهوا

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الناس معادن خيراهم في الجاهلية خيارهم في الإسلام إذا فقهوا وَهَذَا الحديثُ لاَ نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صالحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ إلاَّ قيس

قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ يقول الناس معادن في الخير والشر خيارهم في الجاهلية خيارهم في الإسلام إذا فقهوا

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الناس معادن خيارهم في الجاهلية خيارهم في الإسلام إذا فقهوا

"The best of you is the one who is best in repaying." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4693)

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «خِيَارُكُمْ أَحْسَنُكُمْ قَضَاءً»

The people said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Who is the most honorable amongst the people (in Allah's Sight)?" He said, "The most righteous amongst them." They said, "We do not ask you, about this. " He said, "Then Joseph, Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, The son of Allah's Prophet the son of Allah's Khalil (i.e. Abraham)." They said, "We do not want to ask about this," He said' "Then you want to ask about the descent of the Arabs. Those who were the best in the pre-lslamic period of ignorance will be the best in Islam provided they comprehend the religious knowledge." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3353)

قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَنْ أَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ؟ قَالَ «أَتْقَاهُمْ» قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ «يُوسُفُ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللهِ ابْنِ نَبِيِّ اللهِ ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللهِ» قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ قَالَ «فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونِي فَإِنَّ خِيَارَهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ خَالَفَهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ [132] 11186 أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ مِثْلَهُ

"إِنَّمَا النَّاسُ معادنُ، خيارهم في الجاهلية، خيارهم في الإِسلام إِذَا فقَهُوا، لا يُؤذَيَنَّ مسلِمٌ بكافِر".

"النَّاسُ مَعَادِنٌ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الجَاهِليَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ في الإِسْلامِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا".

"النَّاسُ مَعَادِنُ في الخير والشَّرِّ خيارُهُمْ فِي الجاهليَّة خِيارُهُمْ في الإِسلامِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا".

"النَّاسُ مَعَادِنٌ خِيَارُهُمْ في الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الإِسْلامِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا، لَا تُؤذُوا مُسْلِمًا بكَافِرٍ".

"النَّاسُ مَعَادِنٌ فِي الْخَيرِ، وَالشَّرِّ، خيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهليَّة خِيَارُهُمْ في الإِسْلامِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا".

"خِيَارُكُم في الإِسلام خياركُمْ في الجاهِلِيَّةِ".

"خِيَارُكُم أحِاسِنُكُم أخْلَاقًا".

"خِيَارُكُمْ في الجاهِلِيَّة خِيَارُكُمْ في الإِسلَام إِذَا فَقُهُوا".

"خَيْرُكُمْ أحَاسِنكُم أَخْلَاقًا إِذا فَقُهُوا".

"مِنْ خِيَارِكُمْ أَحَاسِنُكُمْ أخْلاقًا".
