[Machine] About Fudayl, it is said that they bought barley with a dinar, which was expensive in price. Umm Ali said to Fudayl, "The sustenance for each person is two bites, so he used to take one and give the other as charity. Until when he was about to be struck by severe hunger or suffered some of it, Fudayl said, and he did not return seeking what he had given away when hunger struck him, until we became blind."  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٦١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ

عَنْ فُضَيْلٍ أَنَّهُمُ اشْتَرَوْا شَعِيرًا بِدِينَارٍ كَانَ ذَلِكَ فِي غَلَاءٍ مِنَ السِّعْرِ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ عَلِيٍّ لِفُضَيْلٍ قَوِّتْهُ لِكُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ قُرْصَيْنِ فَكَانَ يَأْخُذُ وَاحِدًا وَيَتَصَدَّقُ بِالْآخَرِ حَتَّى إِذَا كَادَ أَنْ يُصِيبَهُ الْخَوَاءُ أَوْ أَصَابَهُ بَعْضُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فُضَيْلٌ فَمَا رَجَعَ يُرِيدُ مَا ذَهَبَ عِنْدَمَا أَصَابَهُ مِنَ الْجُوعِ حَتَّى اعْتَمَمْنَا
