ahmad-zuhd:952ʿAbdullāh > al-Ḥasan b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Jarawī > ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf al-Dimashqī > Muḥammad b. Sulaymān > Bilāl b. Abū al-Dardāʾ

[Machine] That his mother, Athamah, covered her vision, and then her son entered upon her one day after he had prayed. And she said, "Did you pray, my son?" He said, "Yes." So Athamah said, "Why are you not attending to your place, turning to it? Cry during the prayer at its time, if one day you cry. And cry during the recitation of the Quran, if one day you recite it. You used to recite it with contemplation and tears flowing from your eyes. So today, do not recite it except when you have the same attitude. My longing for you has no limit, as I have not lived my whole life."  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٥٢حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الْجَرَوِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ بِلَالِ بْنِ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ

أَنَّ أُمَّهُ عَثَّامَةَ كُفَّ بَصَرُهَا فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا ابْنُهَا يَوْمًا وَقَدْ صَلَّى فَقَالَتْ أَصَلَّيْتُمْ أَيْ بُنَيَّ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَقَالَتْ عَثَّامُ مَالَكِ لَاهِيَهْ حَلَّتْ بِدَارِكِ دَاهِيَهْ ابْكِي الصَّلَاةَ لِوَقْتِهَا إِنْ كُنْتِ يَوْمًا بَاكِيَهْ وَابْكِ الْقُرَانَ إِذَا تُلِي قَدْ كُنْتِ يَوْمًا تَالِيَهْ تَتْلِينَهُ بِتَفَكُّرٍ وَدُمُوعُ عَيْنِكِ جَارِيَهْ فَالْيَوْمَ لَا تَتْلِينَهُ إِلَّا وَعِنْدَكَ تَالِيَهْ لَهْفِي عَلَيْكِ صَبَابَةً مَا عِشْتُ طُولَ حَيَاتِيَهْ
