ahmad-zuhd:785ʿAbdullāh > Abū Maʿmar > Ibn ʿUyaynah > Hishām b. ʿUrwah

[Machine] Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir said to me, "If you were to see Abdullah ibn Zubayr standing in prayer, you would think he is a tree being swayed by the wind, and the stones of a catapult falling here and there but he remains unaffected."  

الزهد لأحمد:٧٨٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو مَعْمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ لِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ لَوْ رَأَيْتَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ قَائِمًا يُصَلِّي لَقُلْتَ شَجَرَةٌ تَصْفُقُهَا الرِّيَاحُ وَحِجَارَةُ الْمَنْجَنِيقِ تَقَعُ هَاهُنَا وَهَاهُنَا مَا يَلْتَفِتُ

[Machine] If you see the son of Munkadir praying, you would say that he is like a branch of a tree being swayed by the wind, and the mangonel (catapult) falls here and there without concern.
