ahmad-zuhd:549ʿAbdullāh > Bī > Muḥammad b. ʿUbayd > al-Masʿūdī > ʿAwn b. ʿAbdullāh

[Machine] Lokman said to his son, "Seek help from Allah, but do not feel safe from His trickery. Fear Allah with a fear that does not lead to despair of His mercy." His son asked, "O my father, how can I do that when I only have one heart?" He replied, "O my son, indeed the believer has two hearts: a heart in which he hopes, and a heart in which he fears."  

الزهد لأحمد:٥٤٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أبِي أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ أَخْبَرَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

قَالَ لُقْمَانُ لِابْنِهِ ارْجُ اللَّهَ ﷻ رَجَاءً لَا تَأْمَنُ فِيهِ مَكْرَهُ وَخِفِ اللَّهَ مَخَافَةً لَا تَيْأَسُ فِيهَا مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ قَالَ يَا أَبَتَاهُ وَكَيْفَ أَسْتَطِيعُ ذَلِكَ؛ وَإِنَّمَا لِي قَلْبٌ وَاحِدٌ؟ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ لَذُو قَلْبَيْنِ قَلْبٌ يَرْجُو بِهِ وَقَلْبٌ يَخَافُ بِهِ
