ahmad-zuhd:45ʿAbdullāh from my father > Abū ʿAbd al-Ṣamad al-ʿAmmī > Mālik b. Dīnār > al-Ḥasan

[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never ate his fill of bread and meat except on a small amount of food." Malik said, "I did not know what 'daffaf' meant, so I asked an Arab. He said it means when people come together to eat and they all partake in the meal."  

الزهد لأحمد:٤٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ الْعَمِّيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمْ يَشْبَعْ مِنَ الْخُبْزِ وَاللَّحْمِ إِلَّا عَلَى ضَفَفٍ» قَالَ مَالِكٌ لَمْ أَدْرِ مَا «الضَّفَفُ» فَسَأَلْتُ أَعْرَابِيًّا فَقَالَ عَرَبِيَّةٌ وَالْإِلَهِ؛ يَجْتَمِعُ الْقَوْمُ عَلَى الطَّعَامِ فَيَتَنَاوَلُونَهُ تَنَاوُلًا
