ahmad-zuhd:2361ʿAbdullāh from my father > Hāshim b. al-Qāsim > al-Mubārak > al-Ḥasan > Anas b. Mālik

[Machine] I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was lying down on a bed with a pillow made of tanned leather filled with palm fibres beneath his head. Some of his companions entered upon him, including Umar. The Prophet ﷺ moved slightly and Umar noticed that there was a mark on his side caused by the edge of the bed. Umar began to cry, so the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "What makes you cry, O Umar?" Umar replied, "By Allah, I do not cry except that I know you are more honorable in the sight of Allah than Kisra and Caesar, both of whom are spreading mischief in this world while you, O Messenger of Allah, are in a place like this." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Are you not pleased that they have the worldly life while we have the hereafter?" Umar replied, "Yes, of course." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, it is so."

[Machine] I entered to see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ lying on a bed made of straw, with a pillow made of palm fiber under his head. Some of his companions entered, and Umar entered as well. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ moved aside, and Umar saw that there was no cloth between the Messenger's side and the edge of the bed, and the straw had left marks on the Messenger's side. So Umar cried, and the Messenger ﷺ asked him, "What makes you cry, O Umar?" Umar said, "By Allah, I do not cry."
