[Machine] One night, Bittu was at the spring and he stood up to pray. He passed by this verse: "Or do those who commit evils think We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds - [make them] equal in their life and their death? Evil is that which they judge." [Al-Jathiya 21]. He said, "He stayed up the night until what is permissible of this verse changed to another by intense weeping."  

الزهد لأحمد:١٩٢٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هَاشِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الصُّدَائِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ

بِتُّ عِنْدَ الرَّبِيعِ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَقَامَ يُصَلِّي فَمَرَّ بِهَذِهِ الْآيَةِ {أَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِينَ اجْتَرَحُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ أَنْ نَجْعَلَهُمْ كَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ سَوَاءً مَحْيَاهُمْ وَمَمَاتُهُمْ سَاءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ} [الجاثية 21] قَالَ «فَمَكَثَ لَيْلَتَهُ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ مَا يَجُوزُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ إِلَى غَيْرِهَا بِبُكَاءٍ شَدِيدٍ»
