ahmad-zuhd:1594ʿAbdullāh from my father > Shujāʿ b. al-Walīd > Sufyān b. Saʿīd > al-Ḥasan

[Machine] Indeed, the believer does not wake up except in a state of fear, and nothing rectifies him except that state. This is because he is between two sins, a past sin that he doesn't know how Allah will deal with, and a future sin or another one that he doesn't know what is decreed for him regarding it.  

الزهد لأحمد:١٥٩٤حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا شُجَاعُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ

إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ لَا يُصْبِحُ إِلَّا خَائِفًا وَلَا يُصْلِحُهُ إِلَّا ذَاكَ؛ لِأَنَّهُ بَيْنَ ذَنْبَيْنِ ذَنْبٌ مَضَى لَا يَدْرِي كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ اللَّهُ فِيهِ وَآجِلٌ أَوْ قَالَ آخَرُ لَا يَدْرِي مَا كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ
