ahmad-zuhd:1362ʿAbdullāh > Naṣr b. ʿAlī > Rawḥ b. al-Musayyab > Thābit

[Machine] Mutarrif said, "The example of the son of Adam is like that of this stone, if it is struck with something, it moves, and if not, it remains a stone lying on the ground. Then he recited, 'And whoever does not have Allah as a light, for him there is no light.' [Quran 24:40]."  

الزهد لأحمد:١٣٦٢حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ قَالَ

قَالَ مُطَرِّفٌ إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ ابْنِ آدَمَ مَثَلُ هَذَا الْحَجَرِ إِنْ حُرِّكَ بِشَيْءٍ تَحَرَّكَ وَإِلَّا إِنَّمَا هُوَ حَجَرٌ مُلْقًى فِي الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {وَمَنْ لَمْ يَجْعَلِ اللَّهُ لَهُ نُورًا فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ نُورٍ} [النور 40]
