الزهد لأحمد:١٣٠٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ أَخْضَرَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ أَنْبَأَنِيَ الْحَسَنُ قَالَ تَكَلَّمُوا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَالْأَحْنَفُ سَاكِتٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا لَكَ لَا تَتَكَلَّمُ؟ فَقَالَ

«أَخَافُ اللَّهَ إِنْ كَذَبْتُ وَأَخَافُكُمْ إِنْ صَدَقْتُ»
