I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Whoever says,
bismi allāhi alladhī lā yaḍurru maʿa ismihī shayʾun fī al-arḍi wa-lā fī al-samāʾi wa-huwa al-samīʿu al-ʿalīm
In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,
three times, no sudden affliction will befall him until morning; and whoever says it when morning comes, three times, no sudden affliction will befall him until evening.”
Then Aban ibn ‘Uthman was struck with paralysis, and the man who had heard the hadith from him began looking at him. So he said to him, “Why are you looking at me? By Allah, I did not lie against ‘Uthman, nor did ‘Uthman lie against the Prophet ﷺ ; but on the day when what befell me befell me, I became angry and forgot to say it.”
