The Prophet ﷺ read the verse: "We ordained therein for them: Life for life and eye for eye (an-nafsa bin-nafsi wal-'aynu bil-'ayn). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3977)   

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَرَأَهَا (وَكَتَبْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ فِيهَا أَنَّ النَّفْسَ بِالنَّفْسِ وَالْعَيْنُ بِالْعَيْنِ) نَصَبَ النَّفْسَ وَرَفَعَ الْعَيْنَ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to recite the following in Arabic as follows:

"And We ordained for them therein a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose" (Al-Ma'idah 5:45) in the nominative case, "and a tooth for a tooth" (Al-Ma'idah 5:45) in the accusative case.  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ {وَكَتَبْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ فِيهَا أَنَّ النَّفْسَ بِالنَّفْسِ} [المائدة 45] بِالنَّصْبِ {وَالْعَيْنُ بِالْعَيْنِ} [المائدة 45] بِالرَّفْعِ
