"The Quraish and those who followed their religion - and they were called Al-Hums - would stand at Al-Muzdalifah, and they would say: 'We are the people of Allah.' The others would stand at Arafat, so Allah the Mighty and Sublime revealed: Then depart from where the people depart."  

الترمذي:٨٨٤ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى الصَّنْعَانِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الطُّفَاوِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

كَانَتْ قُرَيْشٌ وَمَنْ كَانَ عَلَى دِينِهَا وَهُمُ الْحُمْسُ يَقِفُونَ بِالْمُزْدَلِفَةِ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ قَطِينُ اللَّهِ وَكَانَ مَنْ سِوَاهُمْ يَقِفُونَ بِعَرَفَةَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى (ثُمَّ أَفِيضُوا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ النَّاسُ )  

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ قَالَ وَمَعْنَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ كَانُوا لاَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْحَرَمِ وَعَرَفَةُ خَارِجٌ مِنَ الْحَرَمِ وَأَهْلُ مَكَّةَ كَانُوا يَقِفُونَ بِالْمُزْدَلِفَةِ وَيَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ قَطِينُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي سُكَّانَ اللَّهِ وَمَنْ سِوَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ كَانُوا يَقِفُونَ بِعَرَفَاتٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى (ثُمَّ أَفِيضُوا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ النَّاسُ ) وَالْحُمْسُ هُمْ أَهْلُ الْحَرَمِ

bukhari:4520 – ʿAlī b. ʿAbdullāh > Muḥammad b. Khāzim > Hishām from his father > ʿĀʾishah

The Quraish people and those who embraced their religion, used to stay at Muzdalifa and used to call themselves Al-Hums, while the rest of the Arabs used to stay at ʿArafat. When Islam came, Allah ordered His Prophet to go to ʿArafat and stay at it, and then pass on from there, and that is what is meant by the Statement of Allah:--"Then depart from the place whence all the people depart......" (2.199)  

البخاري:٤٥٢٠ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَازِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

nasai:3012 – Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm > Abū Muʿāwiyah > Hishām from his father > ʿĀʾishah

A’ishah said “Quraish and those who followed their religion used to station at Al Muzdalifah and they were called Al Hums and the rest of Arabs used to station at ‘Arafah. When Islam came, Allaah the most High commanded His Prophet ﷺ to go to ‘Arafah and station there then go quickly from it. That is in accordance with the words of Him Who is exalted “Then go quickly from where the people went quickly.”  

أبو داود:١٩١٠ – حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
