“We went out with the Prophet ﷺ for Hajj or ‘Umrah, and we encountered a swarm of locusts or a type of locust. We started hitting them with out whips and sandals. The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Eat them for they are the game of the sea.’”  

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةٍ أَوْ عُمْرَةٍ فَاسْتَقْبَلَنَا رِجْلٌ مِنْ جَرَادٍ أَوْ ضَرْبٌ مِنْ جَرَادٍ فَجَعَلْنَا نَضْرِبُهُنَّ بِأَسْوَاطِنَا وَنِعَالِنَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ كُلُوهُ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ صَيْدِ الْبَحْرِ  

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during Hajj or Umrah when a man from the tribe of Jurad approached us. We began striking the locusts with our whips and sticks and killing them, but then we questioned ourselves, "What have we done while we are in a state of Ihram?" So we asked the Prophet ﷺ and he said, "There is no harm in catching the creatures of the sea."  

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَجٍّ أَوْ عُمْرَةٍ فَاسْتَقْبَلَتْنَا رِجْلٌ مِنْ جَرَادٍ فَجَعَلْنَا نَضْرِبُهُنَّ بِسِيَاطِنَا وَعِصِيِّنَا وَنَقْتُلُهُنَّ فَسُقِطَ فِي أَيْدِينَا فَقُلْنَا مَا صَنَعْنَا وَنَحْنُ مُحْرِمُونَ؟ فَسَأَلْنَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ صَيْدُ الْبَحْرِ  

[Machine] I heard Abu Hurairah saying: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during Hajj or Umrah, and a man from the Jaraad tribe approached us. We began striking him with our whips and sticks until we killed him. Then we became doubtful as to what we should do since we were in a state of Ihram. So we asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he said, "There is no blame."  

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَجٍّ أَوْ عُمْرَةٍ فَاسْتَقْبَلَنَا رِجْلٌ مِنْ جَرَادٍ فَجَعَلْنَا نَضْرِبُهُنَّ بِسِيَاطِنَا وَعِصِيِّنَا فَنَقْتُلُهُنَّ فَسُقِطَ فِي أَيْدِينَا فَقُلْنَا مَا نَصْنَعُ وَنَحْنُ مُحْرِمُونَ؟ فَسَأَلْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ  

[Machine] I heard Abu Hurairah say, "We were with the Prophet ﷺ during Hajj or Umrah when we encountered a man from the tribe of Jarad. We started striking him with our sticks and whips, but then they slipped from our hands. We asked ourselves, 'What have we done while we are in a state of Ihram (sacred state)?' So, we asked the Prophet ﷺ about it, and he said, 'There is no harm in hunting from the sea.'"
