[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi narrated that Sufyan said, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, who narrated from Humaid bin Abdul Rahman, he said, "Muawiyah came to Medina and asked, 'Where are your scholars? Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast on this day.'" He then said, "I am fasting, so whoever wishes to fast, let them do so, and whoever wishes to break their fast, let them do so." Referring to the day of Ashura.  

الطبراني:١٦٨٦١حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ قَالَا ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ قَدِمَ مُعَاوِيَةُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ؟ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي صَائِمٌ فَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَصُمْ وَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيُفْطِرْ» يَعْنِي يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ
