"عَنْ أبِى هُريْرة قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَاشر أصْحَابِ رسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ونحن مُتواقرِون نَقُولُ: أَفضل هَذِه الأُمة بَعْدَ نبيها: أبو بكر، ثم عُمر، ثم عثمانُ، ثم سَكَتَ".
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was alive, we used to say: The most excellent member of the community of the Prophet ﷺ after himself is Abu Bakr, then ‘Umar, then 'Uthman.
كُنَّا نَقُولُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَىٌّ أَفْضَلُ أُمَّةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بَعْدَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ ثُمَّ عُثْمَانُ ؓ أَجْمَعِينَ
