"عَنْ بقيَةَ، عَن ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَيَّاشٍ وَأَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجدَ فَرَأَى جَمْعًا مِنَ النَّاسِ عَلَى رَجُلٍ فَقالَ: مَا هَذَا؟ قَالُوا يَا رَسُول الله: رَجُلٌ عَلَّامَةٌ، قَالَ: وَمَا الْعَلَّامَةُ؟ قَالُوا: أَعْلَمُ النَّاسِ بِأَنْسَابِ الْعَرَبِ وبِالشِّعرِ، وهُمَا اخْتَلَفَ فِيهِ الْعَرَب (*)، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ هَذَا عِلمٌ لَا يَنْفَعُ، وَجَهَالَةٌ لَا تَضُرُّ".
