Salim al-Barrad said: We came to AbuMas'ud Uqbah ibn Amr al-Ansari and said to him: Tell us about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He stood up before us in the mosque and said the takbir. When he bowed, he placed his hands upon his knees and put his fingers below, and kept his elbows (arms) away from his sides, so everything returned properly to its place. Then he said: "Allah listens to him who praises Him"; then he stood up so that everything returned properly to its place; then he said the takbir and prostrated and put the palms of his hands on the ground; he kept his elbow (arms) away from his sides, so that everything returned to its proper place. Then he raised his head and sat so that everything returned to its place; he then repeated it in a similar way. Then he offered four rak'ahs of prayer like this rak'ah and completed his prayer. Then he said: Thus we witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ offering his prayer.

حَدِّثْنَا عَنْ صَلاَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَامَ بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَكَبَّرَ فَلَمَّا رَكَعَ وَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَجَعَلَ أَصَابِعَهُ أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَجَافَى بَيْنَ مِرْفَقَيْهِ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَىْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقَامَ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَىْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ وَوَضَعَ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى الأَرْضِ ثُمَّ جَافَى بَيْنَ مِرْفَقَيْهِ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَىْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَجَلَسَ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَىْءٍ مِنْهُ فَفَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا ثُمَّ صَلَّى أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ مِثْلَ هَذِهِ الرَّكْعَةِ فَصَلَّى صَلاَتَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا رَأَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي

"We came to Abu Mas'ud and said to him: 'Tell us about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He stood in front of us and said the takbir, then when he bowed he placed his palms on his knees and put his fingers lower than that, and he held his elbows out from his sides until every part of him had settled. Then he said: Sami' Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal-hamd (Allah hears those who praise Him, our Lord, and to You be the praise), then he stood up until every part of him had settled."

"Shall I not show you how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray?" We said: "Yes." So he stood up and when he bowed, he placed his palms on his knees and put his fingers behind his knees, and held his arms out from his sides, until every part of him settled. Then he raised his head and stood up until every part of him settled. Then he prostrated and held his arms out from his sides, until every part of him settled. Then he sat up until every part of him settled. Then he prostrated again until every part of him settled. Then he did four rak'ahs like that. Then he said: "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray, and this is how he used to lead us in prayer."

[AI] We have Abu Mas'ud Al-Badri, should I not pray to you the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He said, "Then he recited the takbir and bowed down, placing his hands on his knees, spreading his fingers on his legs, and moving away from his armpits until everything settled. Then he said, "Allah listens to the one who praises Him," and stood erect until everything settled. Then he recited the takbir, prostrated, and moved away from his armpits until everything settled. Then he raised his head and sat down until everything settled. Then he prostrated the second time and prayed four units of prayer with us, like this." He said, "This was the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or he said, "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray."

لَنَا أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الْبَدْرِيُّ أَلَا أُصَلِّي لَكُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ فَكَبَّرَ فَرَكَعَ فَوَضَعَ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَفُصِلَتْ أَصَابِعُهُ عَلَى سَاقَيْهِ وَجَافَى عَنْ إِبْطَيْهِ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَاسْتَوَى قَائِمًا حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ وَجَافَى عَنْ إِبْطَيْهِ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَاسْتَوَى جَالِسًا حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ الثَّانِيَةَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ هَكَذَا ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا كَانَتْ صَلَاةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَوْ قَالَ هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى

[AI] 'Uqbah bin 'Amr said, "Shall I not show you the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" He stood up, then he said the takbir and then he bowed, putting his hands on his knees and spreading his fingers behind his knees until everything settled from it. Then he raised his head and stood until everything settled from him. Then he prostrated, spreading his hands until everything settled from him. He said, "I prayed four units (raka'at) like this. That is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying or that is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray with us."

عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو أَلَا أُرِيكُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ فَقَامَ فَكَبَّرَ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَجَافَى يَدَيْهِ وَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَفَرَّجَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ مِنْ وَرَاءِ رُكْبَتَيْهِ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَامَ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ فَجَافَى حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ قَالَ فَصَلَّى أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي أَوْ هَكَذَا كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِنَا رَسُولُاللهِ ﷺ

[AI] "Tell us about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so he stood in front of us in the mosque. He said the Takbeer (Allahu Akbar) and when he went into the bowing position, he said the Takbeer and placed his hands on his knees, with his fingers below them, and then straightened his back to stand up again. This is how we saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do it."

He raised his head when everything was settled, and he did the same for four units of prayer. Then he said, 'This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying with us.'"
