Allah waits till when one-third of the first part of the night is over; He descends to the lowest heaven and says: It there any supplicator of forgiveness? Is there any penitant? Is there any petitioner (for mercy and favour)? Is there any solicitor? -till it is daybreak. (Using translation from Muslim 758e)   

السيوطي:٥٣٤٥aعن أبي سعيد وأبي هريرة معًا

"إِنَّ الله يُمْهل حَتَّى إِذا كَانَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيلِ الآخِرِ نَزَلَ إِلى السماءِ الدُّنْيا فَنَادَى: هَلْ مِنْ مُسْتَغُفِرٍ؟ هَلْ مِنْ تَائبٍ؟ هل مِن سَائِلٍ؟ هل مِنْ داعٍ؟ حتى ينفجر الفَجر".  

[ط] الطيالسي [ش] ابن أبى شيبة [حم] أحمد وعبد بن حميد، [م] مسلم [ع] أبو يعلى وابن خزيمة عن أبي سعيد وأبي هريرة معًا

ذِكْرُ خَبَرٍ وَاحِدٍ أَوْهَمَ مَنْ لَمْ يُحْكِمْ صِنَاعَةَ الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّهُ يُضَادُّ الْخَبَرَيْنِ الْأَوَّلَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ ذَكَرْنَاهُمَا

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Verily, Allah delays until the first third of the night passes, then our Lord, blessed and exalted, descends to the lowest heaven and says, 'Is there anyone seeking forgiveness, so that I may forgive them? Is there any repentant, so that I may accept their repentance? Is there any seeker, so that I may grant them? Is there any supplicant, so that I may answer their supplication?' This continues until dawn breaks."  

ابن حبّان:٩٢١أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْأَغَرِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَا
